That’s A Wrap On Safe & Clean Week – Spring 2025

Thank You

Thanks to everyone who got involved in our Safe and Clean Week initiatives. We had 100 volunteers taking time out for planting and collecting litter, we distributed 134 safety alarms, and hosted our first night-time economy safety event where members heard about the vital work done by SOS Bus NI. In addition, our police team were on hand with a drugs detection dog, providing enhanced patrolling and engagement, whilst our clean team supported hospitality venues with power-washing.

OUR BIGGEST VOLUNTEER DAY YET

This year LQ BID partnered with Keep Northern Ireland Beautiful to deliver our biggest volunteer event yet. One Hundred volunteers carried out planting and litter picking across our district, filling 26 large bags with litter, or the equivalent of 10 wheelie bins.

Our planting team were on Great Victoria Street, Hope Street, Downshire Place and Bankmore Square adding greenery and colour.

Member businesses Andras House, Arup, Carson McDowell, Kearney Sefton, NICCY, TNL Community Fund, Voco Hotel and Galgorm Group were out in force, alongside Clean Works (our clean team provider), members of the public and community groups.

We had some laughs along the way and finished the event with coffees at Clayton Hotel. To find out about future events, contact charlotte@linenquarter.org.

THE COMPASS ALLIANCE - PROMOTING NIGHT TIME SAFETY

Members and partners from a range of organisations joined us for an informative and thought-provoking event at the Limelight with SOS NI where businesses were able to find out more about SOS NI’s new ‘Compass Alliance,’ of which LQ BID is the founding member.

We heard from CEO Veronica Morris about the important work the team of volunteers do, as well as Night Czar Michael Stewart and Limelight/Shine director Orla Farquharson.

Michael and Orla discussed how SOS regularly assist people in the nighttime economy, whether that is getting them home safely, offering mental health support or ensuring the safety of women. Members were invited to ask questions and see the van for themselves.

ENHANCED POLICING AND DRUGS DETECTION DOG

Our Streetbeat team were in the district, engaging with the public and carrying out bike patrols. They also visited the transport hub and provided information to businesses. Harry the Springer Spaniel was popular with members of the public as well as being a good deterrent for drug crime.

HOSPITALITY DEEP CLEAN AND THOMAS THOMPSON FOUNTAIN

Our enhanced cleansing resource meant that all hotels and hospitality venues received power-washing just in time for Easter. We also removed graffiti, provided weeding and biocide, and responded to member requests.  We also funded a specialist cleaning job on our historic Thomas Thompson Fountain. Read more about that here.

This is a service we provide six days per week, so if you have any requests throughout the year, contact charlotte@linenquarter.org.

PERSONAL SAFETY ALARMS

We have provided over 130 safety alarms to members businesses. These have been funded by the BID and are available to all members. To avail of these for your team, contact charlotte@linenquarter.org.
