Safer District Fund

LQ BID has a dedicated ‘Safer District Fund’ which members can avail of to improve the safety of public spaces. So far, the fund has been used to enhance CCTV provision on the Dublin Road; The installation of Alley Gates and a graffiti prevention mural on Ventry Lane; Provided bike locks to interested members; and co-funded 4 AED’s around the district.

Previously Supported Projects

New CCTV at Shaftesbury Square

In partnership with the PSNI, LQ BID and the Department of Infrastructure, co-funded the installation of new CCTV on Shaftesbury Square to enhance the existing CCTV network in the district. These additional cameras have increased coverage and have supported enhanced safety of Dublin Road and Great Victoria Street.

Total Cost of Project: £14,000

Amount Contributed from LQ BID Safer District Fund: £5,000

AED Funding

LQ BID co-funded 4 Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) in various offices and hotels around the district. LQ BID aims to make this life-saving device more accessible to our levy payers. Having access to an AED makes the district a safer place to be for everyone.

Total Cost of Projects: £4.400 (average £1,100 per AED)

Amount Contributed from LQ BID Safer District Fund: £2,175 (Average £543 per AED)

Ventry Lane Improvement

LQ BID teamed up with Belfast City Council and the Policing and Community Safety Partnership (PCSP) to help address the problems of anti-social behaviour and crime faced by bordering businesses of Ventry Lane.

This included the installation of an alley gate to prevent anti-social behaviour in the alleyway and making a safer bin storage space for the businesses. LQ BID also funded a mural to enhance the visual appearance of the lane and to prevent graffiti.

Total Cost of Projects: £4,950

Amount Contributed from LQ BID Safer District Fund: £2,475 for the alley gate and £1,000 for the mural

Bike Locks

In September 2025, LQ BID teamed with PSNI to host an event aimed at teaching levy payers the benefit of marking their bikes, and locking your bike to prevent theft. LQ BID provided the Bike locks and the PSNI provided additional bike locks and the event space.
