Community Outreach

Dedicated to supporting our wider community by extending our commitment beyond our boundaries....

LQ BID supports a wide range of community initiatives as part of its ongoing commitment to making the Linen Quarter a vibrant, inclusive, and enjoyable place to live for all. These include environmental and streetscape improvements that enhance residential areas and revitalise underused spaces across the district; sponsorship of local sports teams; and funding for community-led projects that bring people together. LQ BID also invests in programmes that support young people through sport, art, and cultural activities, helping to nurture creativity, confidence, and community pride among the next generation.

Supporting Local Talent: Albion Star Junior Team

LQ BID is proud to support the Albion Star Junior Team with their brand-new football kit, helping to champion youth sport and community spirit in the heart of Belfast.

Albion Star Football Club, based at The Markets and LORAG, is a volunteer-led organisation dedicated to supporting children and young people through sport. Albion Star provides a safe and positive environment where young players can build confidence, learn teamwork, and develop essential life skills.

By promoting values of sportsmanship, respect, and inclusion, the club plays a vital role in strengthening community bonds and giving young people a sense of belonging and purpose.

LQ BID’s support for Albion Star forms part of its wider commitment to creating opportunities for local youth, encouraging participation in sport, art, and culture as powerful tools for wellbeing and community connection.

LQ BID and our member, voco® Belfast also proudly sponsored two young players from surrounding communities to participate in SuperCupNI.

Youth Support

LQ BID, alongside our member voco® Belfast, proudly sponsored two young players from surrounding communities to take part in the SuperCupNI in 2025. This opportunity not only supported their sporting development but also helped build confidence, teamwork, and valuable life experiences on an international stage.

By investing in local young talent, we’re committed to creating pathways for growth and ensuring our community continues to thrive both on and off the pitch.

Donegall Pass Community Murals

The Maryville Street murals form part of a wider initiative to transform key entrance points into Donegall Pass, a historically active and close-knit neighbourhood adjacent to the Linen Quarter. Linen Quarter BID collaborated with Donegall Pass Community Forum to work with local residents to design content for three different murals to be installed at pedestrian gateways on Maryville Street and Apsley Street. The project builds on years of community-led improvements and is intended to reflect local identity and values through vibrant, collaborative public art.

The first mural is located on Maryville Street, and was facilitated by street artist Carla Hodgson (also known as CHA CHA). The content for the mural was developed by primary school-aged children from the local area through a series of workshops organised throughout Summer 2025, while the painting of the mural itself (also executed by local children) took place in two stages in July and August 2025.

A second mural at the Maryville Street site was installed by CHA CHA during November 2025 and displays content created by teenage members of the Donegall Pass Youth Club.

A third mural was installed on Apsley Street by street artist Visual Waste and features content developed by adult residents attending the local ‘Playlist for Life’ group. Members of the group also helped out with painting on site.

Further environmental improvement works to both the Maryville site and Apsley Street were installed  during October 2025 and April 2026 as part of the BID’s Safe & Clean weeks. This involved volunteers from Linen Quarter based businesses.
