Community outreach
LQ BID supports a wide range of community initiatives as part of its ongoing commitment to making the Linen Quarter a vibrant, inclusive, and enjoyable place to live for all. These include environmental and streetscape improvements that enhance residential areas and revitalise underused spaces across the district; sponsorship of local sports teams; and funding for community-led projects that bring people together. LQ BID also invests in programmes that support young people through sport, art, and cultural activities, helping to nurture creativity, confidence, and community pride among the next generation.
Supporting Local Talent: Albion Star Junior Team
LQ BID is proud to support the Albion Star Junior Team with their brand-new football kit, helping to champion youth sport and community spirit in the heart of Belfast.
Albion Star Football Club, based at The Market and LORAG, is a volunteer-led organisation dedicated to supporting children and young people through sport. More than just a football club, Albion Star provides a safe and positive environment where young players can build confidence, learn teamwork, and develop essential life skills.
By promoting values of sportsmanship, respect, and inclusion, the club plays a vital role in strengthening community bonds and giving young people a sense of belonging and purpose.
LQ BID’s support for Albion Star forms part of its wider commitment to creating opportunities for local youth, encouraging participation in sport, art, and culture as powerful tools for wellbeing and community connection.
Donegall Pass community mural
This new mural is located on Maryville Street, and is installed in collaboration with Donegall Pass Community Forum and street artist Carla Hodgson (also known as CHA CHA). The content for the mural was developed by primary school-aged children from the local area through a series of workshops organised throughout Summer 2025, while the painting of the mural itself (also executed by local children) took place in two stages in July and August 2025. The work builds on years of community-led improvements and is intended to reflect local identity and values through vibrant, collaborative public art.
The Maryville Street mural forms part of a wider initiative to transform key entrance points into Donegall Pass, a historically active and close-knit neighbourhood adjacent to the Linen Quarter. Further environmental improvement works to the Maryville site are planned to take place during the month of October, as part of the BID’s Safe & Clean week.
