Bedford House Public Realm scheme
LQ BID intends to build upon the works originally completed in 2018 as part of DFI’s ‘Better Bedford Street’, which involved widening the footway along the Eastern section of Bedford Street to improve pedestrian flow. One of the aims of the original scheme was to dress the widened footway zone outside Bedford House but this work was not taken forward by the department due to lack of available public funding at the time.
The vision behind the Bedford House Public Realm scheme is to create a high-quality pedestrian environment directly in front of Bedford House. The BID has worked with OGU Architects and local stakeholders to create a proposal that includes installation of stone benches, planting, wayfinding, an information totem, and application of coloured resin to the tarmac of the widened pavement zone to form an intimate outdoor space.
This project would go a long way in negating some of the problems with pavement parking we have seen over recent months. LQ BID will continue to lobby the Department for Infrastructure for permission to take this initiative forward at this location.
