Safe & Clean

Through the lockdown the Linen Quarter’s enhanced police team and dedicated Clean Team have been hard at work to keep the area safe and clean.

The two PSNI officers who make up LQ Street Beat have been involved in regular premises checks and public safety patrols throughout the area. This includes engagement with vulnerable groups such as rough sleepers.

Although overall crime has been low, there have been a number of serious incidents, including a ram raid at SD Kells, several attempted break-ins, and a dangerous late night crane climb. In each case the PSNI have provided a practical response, including enhanced evening patrols, placement of planters to deter crime, or working with site managers to improve security.

The team are currently working to remove abandoned cycles throughout the area, and will be supporting traffic enforcement as soon as parking regulations come back into force.

If you have any issues requiring police advice or support please e-mail Christiaan@linenquarter.org or contact Constable Chris Wallace, Linen Quarter StreatBeat

The Linen Quarter Clean Team have been working in the District two days a week. Unfortunately graffiti taggers have still been active during lockdown, and our Clean Team have removed scores of tags from shutters, walls, utility boxes and doors. We are determined that our members will return to a District that is clean and well maintained.

Another serious problem has been the growth of weeds across the District, in part stimulated by good weather and in part by the absence of other services during lockdown. In places weed growth has been significant – as the wall at Fermanagh House (inbetween the Clayton Hotel and Ormeau Baths) clearly illustrates. Over June the LQ Clean Team will be spraying and removing weeds from across the whole district.

If you come across any litter, graffiti, fly-tips, weed growth, or if you have any pavement power-washing requests, please e-mail Charlotte@linenquarter.org and we will schedule action as soon as we can.
