LQ Clean & Safe Week | Review

LQ Clean and Safe Week ran from 21st-25th March and was comprised of a series of events, services and initiatives for our members which focused on making LQ a cleaner, safer and more vibrant district. Our Clean Team work in the district two days per week, but were commissioned during Clean and Safe Week to provide an enhanced cleansing service across all five days.

Powerwashing

Our team provided power washing around some of our busiest hospitality hotspots, as well as actioning member requests.

Litter Removal

The team focused on the worst-affected areas for litter, such as Bankmore Square, Blackstaff Square and Dublin Road. As well as carrying out increased litter removal, LQ BID also liaises with our public sector partners to report drug paraphernalia and identify ways to reduce litter.

Graffiti Removal

The team spent time identifying and removing graffiti, which would otherwise be a cost to our members. We carried out inspections of the district, to proactively identify new tags, and will liaise with our Street Beat officer to prevent and reduce this.

Street Beat Magnets

Our Street Ambassador Charlie spent time engaging with businesses, making them aware of the Street Beat service, and encouraging them to display magnets with our dedicated officer’s contact information. This means that all staff will have an awareness of Street Beat, and hopefully engage with Chris Wallace.

Protect Your Business Seminar

The PCSP held a ‘Protect Your Business’ Seminar as part of Clean and Safe Week. This involved presentations from a range of partners, including Belfast City Council, the Sharps Team, Extern, Welcome Organisation, SOS and PSNI. This was followed by an engaging Q & A where members and partners discussed key community safety issues and collaborative problem solving.

Detection Dog

The PSNI deployed a detection dog, Cookie, who was in the Linen Quarter to identify drugs. This is a limited resource, so LQ BID is grateful to the PSNI for making this available.
