Linen Quarter Safe & Clean update Spring 2023

Graffiti Removal

To start our second term as we mean to go on, the BID commissioned a deep clean of the lower end of Great Victoria Street and Dublin Road. These areas have been incorporated in the BID for term two, and have been neglected for decades. We carried out deep cleansing in several areas; Shaftesbury Hospital, Oxfam, Botanic Studios and Ulster Bank. This included extensive weeding, graffiti removal, paint jobs and power washing. We have also funded anti-graffiti paint on selected areas to make further instances easier to remove. This cleansing work paves the way for our regeneration efforts in this area.

Power-washing

The BID invested in additional resource to ensure all of the main hotels were power washed in the run-up to Easter. This is a service not offered by council, and is a direct member benefit. Any levy payer can request this service throughout the year by contacting charlotte@linenquarter.org.

Partnerships: Bankmore Square and Blackstaff Square

In addition to commissioned services, LQ BID has leveraged support from public sector partners. A clean-up and needle removal at Bankmore Square was carried out by Belfast City Council Sharps and DFI.  Council’s cleansing team directed additional resource to Blackstaff Square.

PSNI Training

LQ Street Beat Officer Chris Wallace has been delivering interactive crime prevention sessions to organisations. The sessions covered Safe Shopping, Safe socialising, Staying safe online and protecting property. Staff from the organisations also have the opportunity to ask questions and discuss issues of community safety.

In addition, the mobile police unit was parked on Great Victoria Street given extra visibility and the opportunity for staff to engage.

If you would like to book a bespoke session for your organisation, or would like to discuss any issues in LQ, get in touch with Charlotte, charlotte@linenquarter.org.
