LQ BID submits proposals for reconfiguration of local road network

The Linen Quarter BID have been liaising with a variety of stakeholders based in the Blackstaff Sq area over the past year in relation to ongoing difficulties with access to and from businesses in the area. Flowing from a District wide exercise to assess access arrangements for hotels and large venues, the Blackstaff Square area (the block situated between Great Victoria Street, Howard Street and Bedford Street) was identified as a particularly problematic area with competing demands for facilitation of coaches and taxis, deliveries, generic car traffic, cycling and pedestrian movements.

After several stages of consultation, the BID have developed a set of proposals for reconfiguration of the road network within the Blackstaff Square area that is loosely inspired by the SuperBlock model. Proposals include the introduction of one-way traffic systems, addition of coach parking and delivery bays, and transformation of Blackstaff Square into a wider pedestrian priority space.

A formal request to consider these proposals has now been submitted to the Department for Infrastructure.  You can view the access strategy document here.
