The overall aims of the funding are to encourage communities to engage with the PSNI or the PCSPs, encourage participation in community safety activity and contribute to confidence in policing. Therefore, applications must align with one or more of the following “Charitable Purposes” as outlined in The Charities Act 2008, such as:

  • The advancement of education;
  • The advancement of health or the saving of lives;
  • The advancement of citizenship or community development;
  • The advancement of the arts, culture, heritage or science;
  • The advancement of amateur sport;
  • The advancement of human rights, conflict resolution or reconciliation or the promotion or religious or racial harmony or equality and diversity; or
  • The advancement of environmental protection or improvement.

The Small Grants Scheme will not support:

  • Individual or private sector businesses;
  • Politically based activities;
  • Projects led by the PSNI or Policing and Community Safety Partnerships (PCSP).
  • Events or activities to fundraise for other organisations;
  • Capital funding for large value items;
  • Salaries, general administration or annual running costs;
  • Projects where the main activity is based outside Northern Ireland.
