Events Programme Update

20th March 2020

Please see below update on how LQ BID is responding to Coronavirus, with the cancellation of events:

The UK Government has asked members of the public to start working from home where they possibly can and avoid pubs, clubs, theatres and other such social venues. Cancelling and postponing events will free up emergency services, which in turn will help reduce the spread of Covid-19. Schools will close from Friday (today) until further notice. With this advice, LQ Board has decided to postpone events due to take place between now and the end of June. We will continue to monitor and take advice from the Government and Public Health Agency (which is being updated regularly) but our current recommended approach is set out below:

Big Spring Clean Up – although we had to cancel the involvement of local volunteers the initiative still went ahead using professional staff from Consarc Design and the LQ Clean Team (see separate news article). A further community clean-up, including volunteers, will be scheduled at a later date.

Imagine Festival – Events on the 24th – 27th March have now been cancelled due to the latest government advice. Organisers hope to schedule events online. Stay up to date here: https://imaginebelfast.com/

Friday Skive – 27 March and every month thereafter – this social gathering has been postponed until further notice.

Ciclovia – 29 March: Having taken into careful consideration the advice and guidance provided by the relevant authorities in relation to the current situation regarding the global pandemic COVID-19, and in order to ensure we do not add further pressure to the capacity of our health services and other agencies, the funders and partners of Ciclovia Belfast have taken the decision to postpone Ciclovia Belfast until later in 2020. New date TBC.

LQ Health Week – due to take place after Ciclovia from the 29 March – 3 April, this dedicated week has now been postponed and we hope to run at a later date in the year (likely to be in September).

Purple Flag “Alive after Five” – This has now been suspended and we are likely to revive this in conjunction with partner organisations later in the year (date TBC).

AGM – At this stage many organisations are not attending meetings so the AGM is cancelled and a new date for the Jacobs consultation will be scheduled later in the year.”

Get Creative – family event on Sat 16 May has now been postponed due to current circumstances. We hope to reschedule this event to take place as part of Culture Day activities on the 19th September (TBC).

Street Ambassadors – recruitment will proceed at a later date, once hospitality businesses are open and tourism is welcomed again.

Flax Foodie Festival – this keynote event was due to take place on 20th-21st June will now be pushed back until September with exact date TBC.

Belfast Blues Festival – 26-28 June – to proceed as planned but will be subject to relevant CMO guidance at that point.

Please note events scheduled to take place from July onwards will be assessed according to the latest status of the Corvid-19 pandemic and CMO guidance.
